Blessed silence!
She had been vm-ing bugging me about coming over for Easter. I emailed her that we would not be doing so, and that we would see her the following weekend at Stepdad's birthday shindig. EEEERRRT! Full stop contact!
Every bleeding year we have been here, we have been guilted over there for Easter. Money egg hunt for kids, etc. Couple years ago she asked if we were coloring eggs, and I said no. Kids were teens/preteens. She told me I was ruining my son's childhood. I bet she is ginning up something like that now.

Interestingly enough, it was updh who said, if she really missed us, she would visit, but she doesn't. It's just a way to get everybody over at her house on her terms.

I'm noping out of that. I'm sick of PD games all around. Games you can never win, so I'm not playing!
No phone calls or vms is ahhhmayyyyzinnngg.
What can I do next to piss her off? :tongue2:

Ahhhh silence, enjoy it

Ruining your son's childhood when teens/preteens are done with coloring eggs?! Yes, it really sounds like you are a terrible mother, depriving your nearly grown children of coloring eggs.  ;D

The fun never ends with PD relatives.

Refuse to carve pumpkins on Halloween?  No more pictures on Santa's lap at Christmas?   ;D

Enjoy the silence - there is nothing as wonderful as peace and quiet!

Oh lord. My unPD mil used to demand we go to her house for my husband's birthday every year, even though he'd repeatedly told her he didn't want anything done. One year she was absolutely put out because he refused to put on one of the party hats she'd bought.  :aaauuugh: A grown man not wanting to be treated like a child? THE HORROR!

Enjoy your silent treat!

Sneezy, there was absolutely some more similar nonsense about pumpkin carving. I am a HORRIBLE MOTHER and my poor son will have NO TREASURED CHILDHOOD MEMORIES!!
And don't get me started on Santa. My DD was TERRIFIED of people in costumes. Santa was a no-go. She very hilariously (to us) crept out one Christmas morning, "is he gone?" It wasn't something we made big of when we realized her fear.
PDM otoh kept trying to FORCE me to get Santa's Lap pics. "Oh but it's so cute when they're crying!" Um, HELL NO. WTF is wrong with you!!
I have ONE. DD was maybe 5, and she agreed to sit with little brother and hold his hand. She is smiling, little brother is delighted, but she has a death grip on his hand and is clearly still apprehensive.

Easter Saturday was always a huge tradition with NPDM.

When she became too old and feeble to put it on, I was gifted the responsibilty, which I gladly took on because I LOVE this holiday.
It my absolute favorite.

This year is the first year I get to do it MY WAY, as she is finally gone.

Its the most liberated I have felt this far since she died.

Sweet sweet silence and freedom !
Dream in Peace W.I. - you are free now...

alphaomega, we started saying no to our PD family on certain holidays a few years ago so we could celebrate at home, together. My husband said, "I always thought I hated holidays, because I had to be around [PD mil]. Now it's my favorite time of year." He begs me to put up the Christmas tree and decorations early now. Having witnessed firsthand the joy the comes from being able to celebrate a holiday in the way that suits you and not someone else, I hope you have an absolutely magical Easter!

The same goes for everyone here.  :phoot:
