I literally can't do this anymore. So almost a year ago I lost my gelding to sand colic and yesterday my mare started colicking his mom. I called the vet out to treat her again this morning we thought we were going to have to put her down. My mother came out and was standing there and my mare has a knot in her tail and in her mane because I haven't brushed them. I'm not doing well myself, I'm in fighting cancer. So while the vets ultrasound in my mare, my mother pulls out her pocket knife and starts cutting a knot out of my mares tail. First of all that's dangerous for those of you that don't know because my mare was nervous around the vet and could move quickly. Secondly this isn't her horse this is my horse. I said mom can you please stop. She continue to cut I said Mom stop now she continue to cut and I yelled mom stop right f****** now. She was oh too late now you couldn't brush it out anyways. I would have brushed it out I've just been dealing with a sick horse and my sick self.
So then later that afternoon I called my sister to see how she was doing cuz she's sick, by the way she's The Golden child and then told my sister about it and my sister acted like it wasn't any big deal. Then I find out my mom called my sister twice while my sister was doing her school stuff to complain about me.
She then argues all damn day about everything. Horses were literally my career. She knows she's pushed me to my edge. Losing this mare will hurt so badly and unfortunately it's not looking good. When I put my gelding down they started an argument and I wasn't even home from the vets. His body wasn't even cold yet. I just don't understand how they can be this way!

Sorry that you are going through this.

So, if you expect mentally ill people to act mentally ill, then you'll never be surprised or caught off-guard.

I have to say, you will never, ever understand why they have to be this way. It's just the way mentally ill people behave, so accept it and decide to be purposely happy without having to rely on them for your joy.

Would it at all be possible to have a time out with your mom? For a while? You are dealing with enough, you might need a break from further provocation.
I can't hate my way into loving myself.

I am sorry for all the painful things happening in your life right now.  Our animals are such a source of joy and healing.

I did want to respond to your statement of not understanding why the behave this way.   I've asked myself that so many, many times.  Just last week a different question  question popped into my head.

Do I want to be the kind of person who understands why they do those things?

Do I want to be the person who sees logic and reason in selfishness and cruelty?

Do I want to let enough of the crazy into my own soul just to have a relationship with people who make me unhappy?

For some reason I think I'm actually starting to hear the truth.  The question isn't, "what do I need to do to earn your love?"  The question is, "even if you did love me, is your love worth having?"

We can waste years of our life trying to understand the whys and the wherefores of people with personality disorders. It boils down to the fact that they are sick and that their pathology plays out in the arena of human relationships. At the end of the day, that's all you need to know.

The really important thing is to understand how best to protect yourself, especially at such a vulnerable time in your life. Really really important.

I hope your horse gets better and that your cancer treatment goes well and you make a full recovery. We are here for you ❤️
It gets better. It has to.

It's just gotten worse all day. She keeps telling me what she did blah blah blah. My years of experience and not having colic for all those years means nothing.
Then my sister calls me and informs me she's not saying it but she's saying I'm neglecting the horses. This is the same damn woman who had two bred mares on the property and one skinny horse and seems to have forgotten. Her excuse, she was sick and didn't know it.

And btw thank you to all those who responding. I appreciate it.

You could decline their calls, maybe bit permanently but perhaps temporarily. Let them go to voicemail, and turn off any/all notifications for them. You've got enough without feeling you need to explain anything to people who aren't listening anyway.
Breathe. You can do what needs to be done here. No obligation to ask how high whenever mom says jump.

I live with her so as much as I'd like to do that it won't help but thank you for the suggestion

The post above was suppose to say she had two pregnant horses and didn't even know it and one skinny one that should have had hsus called on her for.
