Hello Everyone:

I've recently had my "Lightbulb Moment" about my uNPD father and sister.  I'm not in a very good place right now putting 50 years of being a victim in an abuse cycle by both of them.

I checked the Toolbox and the Resources tabs looking for anything related to trauma therapists.  I thought that at least in the past a person could only receive therapy by a licensed professional who is licensed in the state to which the person resides (in the U.S.).  I wonder if that's changed now with "zoom" sessions being so common.  I wonder if a person in the U.S. can do therapy with a therapist residing in another state?

Are there any resources on trauma therapists available for zoom therapy?

Thank you.

I could really use this information as well. My health plan has Zero trauma experienced therapists.

D.

I have services through my insurance.  And yes, we use video chat.  I find it works great since I have a quiet space at home and have done therapy for years.  We met once in person.  I found a therapist who I have not used but I saw online that she can provide services with video.  I think you bring up a great point that sometimes the best therapeutic match is far away and video can be a great option. I don't think that zoom is a very secure platform however...might need to be a different platform for video.  Another therapist I worked with moved and let me know she could continue using Facetime which we do sometimes.

That said there are some therapeutic techniques that require in-person, such as EMDR.

Here is a link to the trauma informed therapist I found a while back online.  I think she is available with video.  If I didn't have to use the one w/my work insurance I would look in to her.  She is based out of Canada:

Is it ok to share this info on the forum?  If not I totally understand!

A licensed therapist in the USA will be using a HIIPA compliant  ideo chat platform and will likely send you a link/invitation to their room, session, chat or whatever it's called.
