Developing a sense of fashion in my 30s

Just that really. But it strikes me that the more grounded I feel within myself, the more I want to dress well and buy myself nice things to wear. I feel more equal to others now, so I dress myself more equally to them, and no longer feel like the scruffy one on the train/at the restaurant/walking down the street.

Fashion can be shallow, sure, but it can also actually come from a deeper place than just being vain. That's where this is coming from for me. I'm not shallow. I just want to be visible in what feels like the most positive light I can present myself in.

I deserve to be seen and heard. I have a right to wear good clothing that suits me and highlights the best of me. I am allowed to adorn myself with jewellery and makeup for that finishing touch. And I'm allowed to have fun doing it.

I am right to bat away my mother's wicked, lying voice when it pops into my head. I'm right to wear what I want. I'm right to use deodorant and to shave and to shape my eyebrows. I'm right to let my hair grow long and let it be its wild curly/wavy/frizzy self. I'm right to wear pretty glasses instead of the cheapest ones at the budget opticians. I'm right to be choosing what I want to do with my own body. It's mine, and I love it.

Cool, I hope you find the clothes that let you Be You.

And if you change, I hope you find those clothes also. 

Fashion is personal and expressive have fun with it.

....... Says the way too old to still be wearing jeans and t-shirts female with no makeup and grey hair.   (6 petite), lol

Absolutely!!! There's a positive side to dressing nice, taking pride in ourselves for sure! I also got the message of 'making do'. It's not even necessary to spend a lot of money, things like figuring out what cut and colours suit us can make a big difference. There are books on fashion in the library too.

Good on you for taking care of yourself in this way!!  :)
