My husband and posed this question to me:
"If it wasn't for your past would the work situation bother you as much or is just the flight or fight instinct taking hold."

Darn it!  He's right.   Just one more way I'm feeling "messed" up.  I disconnect.  I withdraw.   But, I also get combative.   I feel attacked.  I'm sensitive.   Sometimes it's rightly so, but sometimes it's not.

<Ironically, or not so ironically, the work situation is a PD situation.   I know I am not "safe".  So medium chill it is and NC isn't exactly an option. >

I think many of us have been raised to be afraid of conflict.  We like to smooth things over and keep the peace.  So when conflict happens, we tend to withdraw.  But that also wears on us after a while.  Why should we always be the peace-keepers and the smoother-overs?  So then we get a little testy/combative.

Your instincts seem to be pushing you in the right direction.  In a work situation, where NC is not an option, medium chill is a good way to go.  Good luck!
