Emotionally "noisy" people

As I am working my personal growth and living in awareness now, at present I am finding other peoples emotions so very loud feeling.

As an empath (a child from a traumatic childhood who learns to read peoples emotions in order to try and keep safe)  I can always feel them anyway but right now they are ramped right up.

I think what is happening is that my body is resetting regulation as I come out of hypervigilance from being around late covert narc alcoholic husband for so many years.

Is overly sensitive now as part of settling down to the healthy middle range.

At present, oh gosh.  With toxic people the toxic energy flowing off them feels dreadful.  My nervous system jars and jangles.  I am careful not to absorb this toxic energy but that takes work on my part.

On the happier side though, my dear friend has lovely, safe warm energy pouring off him that feels wonderful.

I wonder if anyone else relates to being an empath who feels the emotions of others.  Also to be able to read the mood of a room of people just by walking in there.  In many ways this is a gift but at present, it is ramped up too high.  I will be pleased when it comes back down again.

Your timing for posting this is perfect!  This is what I jotted down the other day to discuss w/my therapist:

Really difficult to have lived with the sensation of everyone's emotions pelting all over me all the time.  It's always been way too loud and I've never been able to turn it down.  And the emotions always feel negative-anxiety, simmering rage, loneliness, panic, desperation.

My only solution has been to get physical distance.  I need time AWAY.

Thank you, Looloo

You have expressed it far better than I was able to.  Yes, it feels like it is PELTING me in the face.   Also indeed the "loudest" emotions pelting me in the face are negative ones.

I have noticed through my life that it gets louder if I am ill or tired.  It is always there, as I say, it is just the loudness that alters.

I take time out a lot too.  For the sake of my wellbeing and mental health.

I hope the session with your therapist is of help to you.
