I rang my unPdM yesterday. I'm LC , so don't do this often. Especially as it's all about her.

The News program was beginning in 5 minutes. She wanted me off the phone so she could catch up on what's happening in the Ukraine.
Every time something dramatic happens she's over it like a rash. Oooh the drama, ooh the awfulness. Makes me  sick     :barfy:

My Covert NM is the same.  It's all about the drama of the news.  Her favorite subject after  gossip, family and friends.

When I was coming Out of the FOG rebelling, angry about the family dynamics, she said « there are worst problems happening in the world right now».  Really???  The world problems are more important than your own family falling apart.
I may be the black sheep of the family, but some of the white sheep are not as white as they try to appear.

OMG yes! I nearly posted about this as a separate thread. My mother rang me last night because she was worried about the situation in Ukraine. I get that. We're all worried. She lived through WW2 and the Cuban missile crisis. I get that too.  But she turned it into a waif drama and I had zero pity for her. She utterly exhausted that in me. I give zero f**ks when she waifs, even when it's justified. And, at no point did she ask how I was feeling about it. Anyway, I suggested she does some deep breathing when she's anxious and got off the phone asap. (The dog's on fire). These people!
It gets better. It has to.

I've been avoiding calling my PDmom because I know I'll get a big fat dose of "I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT'S HAPPENING! OHHHHH IT'S SO AWFUL. I'M SORRY THIS IS THE WORLD WE'RE LEAVING YOU WITH!" This is the only time -- EVER -- that she apologizes for anything, btw. Only to offer up these phony, melodramatic apologies about the state of the entire world:roll:

Yes. The crying shame is that it's not possible to have an reasonable conversation about 'events '. My M also survived WW2 before migrating to the UK. I can't allow myself to get into conversations about ....animals, wars, family favourites , brexit  :o , the doctor.....etc etc.
Because it immediately ramps up. Wailing and gnashing of teeth !

It wouldn't be so bad if I thought that she was coming from a place of empathy, but I've learned she's not. Only as far as how she sees an event affecting her. She doesn't really care about them. It's just something else to gossip about.

She must be very damaged.
