This is one of those things that when I was totally in the FOG I actually mostly BELIEVED it. uPDh is  generally convinced that he is smarter than everyone and knows more than anyone. About pretty much everything. And likes to try to make  a person feel 'dumb' by  pointing out something in a cavalier way where you have to say 'no I didn't know that' or 'no, please tell me more' (LOL). NOW that I am getting Out of the FOG it's one of those things that 'now that I've seen it I can't UNSEE it' and I actually just grey-rock listen and say uh-huh and then sometimes research the topic to see if he is right or full of sh*t.
e.g. we are watching a historical fiction series on tv. I know (having researched the author of the books it is based on) that it is intended to be fairly historically accurate. I am NOT any kind of expert on history and uPDh knows this. At one point last night I asked him to pause it (I wanted to ask if he remembered something about the character on screen from a prior season) and he says 'Oh, are you having a problem with x being in x country too?' Me: No. Him: well cause you know that x country wasn't even a country then. Me: okay. Him: I mean  you know so-and-so and so-and-so in x year etc? Me: nope. I don't know any of that history, but here's my question....
So then later I looked it up - what year does this season take place and then the history of the geographical area in question. Sure enough - the ACTUAL history says those folks WERE there then!!
BUT - this is the eerie thing: he is SO CONVINCING when he says these things. AS IF it is the 100% truth, that he KNOWS this to be correct info. SO CONVINCING.
I do NOT argue with him. I do NOT share the info I researched (that would just incite anger as in "what you fact-check me now?" or denial as in "well, that website must be wrong" (this   example I actually looked at the official website of the country in question ;)

My uNPDh doesn't know everything except this; Fae is always wrong. Did you know that women can CHOOSE when they have their periods? How did he, as a man, know this? How did I, as a woman, not know this? It is a mystery. My husband insisted that it was true even though I had been telling him for 20+ years that it happened when it damn happened. I was in peri-menopause with irregular periods when he dropped this pearl of wisdom on me along with a meltdown because I mentioned, in passing, that I'd started that day. Thank God for full menopause. And like you, in our early days I thought he was really smart. At the time of my story, that ship had sailed, passed over the horizon, struck a reef, got hit by a tsunami, and broke in half like the Titanic with full loss of life and no insurance for the cargo.
I have to remind myself constantly that I am responsible for my choices but not the choices of anyone else.

When we have a child, we give a hostage to fortune and to the other parent.

I may not respond as I have to sneak onto this site and more than a quick view is challenging.

"At the time of my story, that ship had sailed, passed over the horizon, struck a reef, got hit by a tsunami, and broke in half like the Titanic with full loss of life and no insurance for the cargo."

Wow, Fae, I get the picture!!! Ha ha.

I can only confirm what all of you wrote.
I don´t know, are they all from the same family?

I learned early enough I should not doubt my H´s knowledge. At first, I used to give him some friendly hints about him being wrong - always when there were no other people present. I did not do it for showing off but for wishing that my H does not get ridiculed by others. I would thank anyone who would correct me in such a way.

But no, my hints were not welcome. I was accused of bringing my job home (I´m a teacher) so I gave up very soon and witnessed numerous occasions when other people corrected him in a far less subtle manner. And he never said a word, he just accepted their arguments.

This proves once again they have no respect for their partners.

Edit: Fae Greenwood, your allegory about the long-gone ship fits in here.  8-)
