What is the worst or weirdest gift you have ever received from your PD?

My uNPD mother has got unsuitable gifts down to a fine art over the years.

But today I received the most amazing one yet.

She proudly presented me with a small ball of what appeared to be some sort of needle-felted wool. It transpired that she has been saving the hairs that collect in her comb and rolling them into balls. Apparently she has quite a number of these. I am told it will make a very useful pin cushion.

Don't let the narcs get you down!

Ongoing thread in PD parents for your reading [dis]pleasure ... https://www.outofthefog.net/forum/index.php?topic=90374.msg772497#msg772497

Thank you! I had a feeling there might be one (indeed I see I posted on it myself some months ago) but failed to find it when I looked just now.

There are some doozies, not sure they're quite up there with yours though!  :stars:

That looks like a great thread and NK - at least she didn't turn into art like they did in Victorian era.  Regardless, ew.

I have many pin cushions but that one would NOT be welcome in my collection!

Barf!
It gets better. It has to.

I needed this thread.  Yesterday the PD I am with bought flowers to give to me, he buys flowers to give to me in colors that I don't like, it's a thing with him, this particular time it is rust-colored flowers, I don't like rust, there is a sunflower in the mix, I like sunflowers but what were the odds, the sunflower got damaged when PD put the flowers in the trunk of the car to transport them home, so my gift is rust-colored flowers with a damaged sunflower on the side.  As always with these flowers that the PD knows I won't like, PD asks me repeatedly if I like them, aren't they beautiful, etc.  He also insisted on trimming the stems, rather than allowing me to do it; he hacked away at them, making them messy and too short.

Among all the hateful gifts i received, the worst by far was the engagement ring and everything it represented.

Now with my Dad this always annoys me because it shows a lack of effort.

Xmas time he will give me, say, £100 and say "this is for xmas for all of you".
Kids birthday "get a card and give him £20 will you?" (and then I take it out of his bank account).

Call Me Cordelia

P123 that was how my paternal grandparents did it. Send my mother a check that worked out to $10 per grandkid, mother did the shopping and wrapping, spending more than that lest it not look like a generous number of presents (it had to be multiple things). We unwrapped it in front of the grandparents knowing the whole operation, performing our script for "excited and grateful loving granddaughters," or else from dad afterwards. The grandparents didn't even know what was in the boxes nor did they care.

Oh my goodness, the hair thing is just creepy. Maybe you could make a little voodoo doll out of it  :evil2:

I have a few bad gift stories, but I think the worst was the Christmas when my bpdxh gave me shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant all unwrapped in a grocery bag. I was left wondering if he thought that I smelled bad.

And there was the birthday card that said...for your birthday I want to get you a fuzzy navel...and stuck inside was a clump of fuzz. I know it's not technically a gift, but I thought it went along with p123's comment about belly button fluff.  ;D

I haven't got around to throwing that hair ball away yet. In fact, the other day I stabbed a pin into it. Was that very wrong of me? She did say it would make a good pincushion, though I was not sewing at the time.  :whistling:

Great minds think alike - our posts crossed.

I don't even get the fuzzy navel card. Is there something known as a fuzzy navel that isn't? A cocktail or something?

Holy cow! I thought I had won the previous thread when I closed off page 5 with this one:

I was given a coffee can full of their dryer lint, nicely wrapped with a bow.

I was supposed to use it to make my own fire starters. You stuff a toilet paper roll full of lint, and dip that in melted wax. So, to save me the effort, I received a can full of lint from their laundry. Yay!

Yes, it is a type of cocktail. And not one that I would ever drink, so not even an inside joke or anything like that.

Breadroll

Brilliant thread. Ex npdh -a) nothing with a scowl b) extremely large mens slippers c) battleship grey towel, which he then used himself.   Ah- the romance 😂

I could write a book just about this, the various gifts from both STBX and mother are something.

But generally, I used to get tons of clothes by STBX, if I didn't like them (meaning not wearing them) she got really offended and sullen. Over the years with her I was never allowed to by my own clothes unless she approved of it. Last week I bought myself new jeans, what a great feeling it was to just pick what I liked and then just wear them.

Call Me Cordelia

My IL's live far away. When I went out there for my wedding shower, MIL started off the trip by "generously" taking me shopping for a new dress to wear. I had brought something with me. She very clearly was trying to choose for me and make me her mini-me. My style was very different from hers and I felt majorly uncomfortable in everything she suggested, and she refused to pay for anything I liked. She also accused me of judging her because my style is more conservative, but she couldn't introduce me to her friends looking like that. (Like myself.) It would be too embarrassing.
