So I drive to my Dads every week (30 mins away). I get groceries for him - probably 4/5 items (this is just the scam to get me there).

Last night as he always does, he went through every line of his bank statement with me. Then he produced every letter he'd had that week. Its like "I've had a letter from the bank, it says changes to terms and conditions, what is it?". I reply "they're changing terms and conditions". "Oh OK then"

So this takes 30-45 mins. There is no need at all. Then I get requests - "I think I paid 59p more this month on my bank statement - can you phone them for me?"
Its ALL about money and how not to spend it with him.

After this, I get the "interrogation". He must have asked every week for the last two months how much I earn? MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!!!! Hes obsessed with money.
I can literally not speak to him about anything these days. Even "safe" subjects like the football/soccer he manages to wind me up. Mentioned "those people" who were forced to take their hats off with the gay rights colours. "Its up to them if they do what they do I suppose but no-one else needs to know, keep it to yourself". Jeez Dad - this is just typical.

I often dream that I was gay, Dad would never speak to me ever again.

I suppose his world has shrunk. Sounds like you are his only window to the world.
We used to have something very similar with the FIL. He used to phone very early on a Saturday morning when we were still in bed wanting to discuss hospital appointments.
His shopping list was literally : - One apple. Two oranges ........   He had rigid views on everything yet the neighbours and near-strangers always thought he was lovely.
