PD parent was in hospital last wk & back to NH now
sibling-in-charge said "no more hospital & hospice coming in"
sibling told everyone to say "good-bye" cause she'll pass on Wednesday (yesterday)

she is still alive & I don't think one can predict
sibling is basing on fact that PD parent hasn't eaten for 3 weeks
however, she is very overweight & can probably live on that excess, wouldn't one think?

sibling from out of state is flying in this weekend
if sibling thinks there will be a funeral this week.....I don't know

can sibling-in-charge predict?

fyi when FIL was in nursing home, he kept saying he didn't want to live anymore & was stuck in bed
he lived months in that condition so there's really no way to know, right?

If hospice care nursers are still checking in daily, they can sort of assess the time of passing.  They check all the vitals....the breathing, the heart, etc.  Passing can take a few weeks in most cases when food is no longer being provided.  You say that your FIL lasted months?  Was he being fed or tube fed?  Also, I am surprised that hospice still wouldn't be at least checking in once a day until the very end...idk.  I only know what I have been through with others that passed this way but perhaps others have similar to share.

I certainly can't say whether sibling-in-charge is basing his prediction on accurate information or not. The professionals who see it often do know when death is close, but it's really odd to predict a specific day like that in my opinion. Grace and peace to you.

he also had "no extraordinary measures" in his chart

for FIL, SIL would bring in favorite foods when she visited & remember her saying "he took a few bites"
it does seem people can live for a while w/o eating and/or eating much of anything

I think the only person who 'knows' is the one dying and usually only on the actual day of it happening.

I guess he was close.

Got message this morn that she passed away in middle of night.

even tho sibling said it was going to happen, I was surprised it happened so soon
