I am not sure where best to put this, but it deserves a thread of it's own and I put it here. I went to a pantomime with DD and her friend, not sure if anyone outside of the UK knows what it is? Anyway, it was so funny and I found myself laughing hysterically. I realised this is the first time for years I have laughed like this, it felt like being reborn. DD and her friend also laughed a lot, I am just so happy to start this new life.

  I looked it up because yes, never heard the term. Sounds fantastic and so glad you and DD are making time for joy.

I have been thinking about this, just laughing loudly without thinking. Before I would have consciously or unconsciously check in with STBX to see if she was laughing to see if it was OK to laugh. What a relief to be out of that.

Smaller Pantomimes tend to be very 'local'. Lots of in-jokes about local places etc, aimed at both children and adults, at different levels  ( like the more modern animated films are). We've been going to ours for years.
I can remember when I first got into going that the adult audience didn't seem to join in that much, but I decided I was going to. "Oh, yes I am!" .Nowadays everyone joins in.
It seems that , in the UK at least, people are getting more and more into dressing up . Thereby creating an alter ego. A role. For festivals, going outat night, super hero conventions etc etc. Which is great. You're a different person.

I was trying to think of a US equivalent of panto....The Rocky Horror Show ?  People know the script, and the expected responses. To the max. Loads of audience participation , banter . You always want to go back again no matter how many times you've seen it before.
