Jury Duty

I'm sitting on a grand jury.    It's a 6 month term, meeting once a month to determine if the local attorney has enough evidence to proceed with felony cases.    We don't actually pass judgement on the cases.    Occasionally, there are child abuse cases that come up.   But, yesterday, it was the vast majority of the cases.   Drug addicted parents, domestic violence, etc.   I usually have to do some serious self care afterwards.   

But, yesterday....I learned that the laws in my country have evolved to protect children far more than they did when I was a child.   It was remarkable to realize that my parents would BOTH be facing potential jail time for some of the things they put me through, IF they happened now.     Both, would easily be convicted on felony charges.   I'm glad that the laws have changed to more proactively protect children.   

Don't ever beat yourself up for going VLC, NC, or LC.....surviving is so much more important.

That's heartening to hear, LTD. For so many of us there was no recourse and no champions, we survived with the help of a few kind souls and courage we didn't even know existed. I don't doubt that many of our parents would vehemently deny any responsibility for the abuse, by way of blaming us or others or circumstances. Sickening, isn't it?

I am glad the laws seems to be tighter in the US, here in the UK they are as weak as they come. The police didn't want anything to do with me when I was trying to report domestic abuse against me and the kids, the family court dismissed it as well and believed her when she said she was going to be a good girl now.
