My partner reads it wrong!

Is being negative about other people especially and complaining a lot part of a personality disorder?  I find my partner has a tendency to open his mouth and say what's on his mind to people which in turn causes a lot of conflicted feelings, even when it is no big deal to anyone but him.  He seems to misunderstand some situations and take offence when the situation really was quite simple.  He is  confrontational for no real reason but he thinks people need to know, a saying his father use to say "people need to be told" ???

He has caused a few awkward situations that I don't appreciate, He is steadfast in his opinions and won't budge about it.

Thoughts?

Hello Juju,

First, a warm welcome to Out of the FOG!   Im sorry you have a difficult relationship with your partner.

You may find your answer in the top-100 traits, located within the Personality Disorders tab at the top of the page.  While you are there, I suggest you look through all of the traits, making a list of the ones that you believe you experience from your partner.  Doing that exercise, may assist you going forward with recognizing behaviors, and being able to put a trait name to your experiences.  I have put a link below to be helpful.

I suggest you do all research privately, and do not discuss what you find with your partner, as doing so can cause many negative experiences.  While you are browsing the tabs, also check out the Toolbox tab to the right, as that tab may be very helpful for you to equip yourself going forward.

I also want to recommend you privately view YouTube videos from Dr. Ramani.  She has very helpful videos on all sorts of PD behaviors and the terminology.  See you around the boards!

This is common especially with various forms of narcissists.

I second the use of the 100 traits list.  an invaluable tool in evaluating all the subtle and not so subtle forms of abuse in your life.
