In my quest for healing I got into a new area that I find fascinating and could hold the key to true healing. Hypnosis and reprogramming the unconscious brain. The theory is that we can reprogram it just before falling asleep and just after waking up, and then during hypnosis. I listened to a youtube hypnosis video about breaking the trauma bond, it really got me moved and I had images flashing before my eyes and it almost got me to start crying. I am giving this a go as I really want to reinstall the programs that was put into my brain in my childhood.

Do you have any experience of this and if so any good audios or videos to recommend? The one I used was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJn3yXPjfIs by Danish Bashir.

I did listen to the video before falling asleep, I am not sure if it made any difference but I had a really weird dream about uNPDxw and the kids. We spent time together with the kids, as divorced, I kept making minor mistakes and was waiting for her to explode in to rage for every mistake. She never did in the dream, but I was fully aware of that she wasn't the person she portrayed to be. Maybe my subconscious is starting to shift into knowing she is not the mask but the toxic person behind it that she tries so hard to hide.

Any benefit you might find from hypnosis-style therapies will occur due to your subconscious processing traumatic events and patterns, then resolving them so your amygdala stands down from FFFF in acceptance that the threat no longer requires the level of vigilence it previously did.

I believe your dreams are where that process can happen. So yes, I think your dream was a therapeutic step for you. Keep going!

Hi EM,

I have not tried self help hypnosis but am curious as to what you find. I have read quite a bit about dreams and that sleep is for memory consolidation. So after PD abuse, dreams can be one way our brain tries to make sense of what we experienced.

 Hi EM,

I have no experience with this at all, but am generally intrigued to keep up with the thread to see what you discover, and read other comrades input.  Now where is that darn popcorn-eating gif emoji??

Thanks for you replies.

I got an app full of hypnosis and meditations and more, I have listen to a few hypnosis now. I will try to listen to two a day and see how I get on, so far only a few days in I feel quite relaxed doing this - but laying on the sofa twice a day listening to a soft voice with calming background music should make you relaxed I would have thought. I will probably mix hypnosis with meditation as it is almost the same kind of thing, and the library of meditation adds a lot of content.

Update, 4 days in and 2-3 hypnosis a day and I feel really good. I have one short I can do in 12 minutes if I feel overwhelmed or down, that alone can put me back on top. I will come with a bigger update soon, but my sleep last night was different. In the past I have struggled to sleep and had nightmares, unless having a drink before bedtime (which is artificial help), but I slept like a baby without any help of anything. I am starting to get clarity of my traumas and will move past them.

This seems like you have found something that is helping you.  Sleep is such an important aspect of our holistic health.

The change in the types of dreams is very important.

I had a close friend who had huge trauma having been abused and traffic as a child.  Such dreams were always a mile stone for him in reducing his overall burden as bits and pieces were handled in his subconscious and then later he would find certain memories less painful and that some triggers were less triggering.
