Before I even knew anything about personality disorders I noticed that my mother was incredibly predictable in the things she said. I often fantasised about preparing little cards I would carry round in my pocket and just put them on the table when she came out with her maladaptive phrases. Her worst aspect was emotional parentification/blackmail.  If we had a good list we could prepare little PD BS Bingo cards and laminate them and have them ready for family get-togethers. I'll start:

I work my fingers to the bone for you.
I never got remarried because of you.
You are always reading (my personal favorite)
It gets better. It has to.

Haha so true and funny Boat Babe. Are there points and prizes or betting involved? Do I get to yell 'Bingo' when the PD states the phrase on the card I played?  ;D

My son was a soccer player and I always wished I had a set of referee yellow and red cards to hold up during devaluation episodes based on the severity of the insult, but your bingo PD prediction cards are over the top awesome!

Since PD's use the same playbook, maybe theres some money to be made in your idea... nice packaging... worldwide distribution... upsold at trauma therapists offices $$$

I like it!

Bingo cards for phone calls are good, too! Just let them prattle on and you go marking phrase by phrase until ... Bingo! Got to go, ttyl, bye bye!

The referee cards are great too. Don't even have to say anything. Just hold up a yellow. Protest? Now you get a red.

DH and I used to joke about getting three sets of pacifiers when the inlaws came to visit. One for the baby, and the other two for the inlaws. So when they started whining or complaining, we'd pop them in their mouths and go about our day in peace.

Peace!

I can add to the list:

You must consider other people first.
You are a burden.

The most frequently one used whilst growing up:

No.

That's horrible Black Cat - hugs to you my dear.
SoT - that would be one way of making lemonade from those incredibly sour lemons.

Haha! Too good! 😂

With us foo family in circle 1 or 2, my PDfather has always interrupted any of us in mid sentence, saying "change the subject!...im tired of this subject!!". Bingo!!

Before I was aware of PD, it would always shock me that someone could be such an ass, and I would go silent.  Now that  I know its his PD trait, I now totally ignore his interruptions, and keep plowing right through with my volume up a notch, talking right on top of him and finish my (now loud) thought and then immediately get up and walk away calmly. (Yellow card!)

When Im walking away, he will say to my back "youre too sensitive".  Thats when I need to pull the red card along with that insult's bingo card and hold them both up, saying "Bingo!" just before the door shuts on my departure.

BoatBabe, I really like this.  Im going to design mine on Adobe Illustrator and laminate them like you said, and the next time Im with him, Im going to have a set of these bingo cards and a red & yellow.  I think I will put a letter(s) or symbol on the flip side of each, that represents the trait, only known to me and never revealed to anyone.

Love this!  Will be entertaining and invigorating. He will get so frustrated, he will walk away, and when he does, I will need a bingo card with a checkered flag on it!

You chirren are way behind the eight ball ! The "kids of" have been playing PD bingo for a while.  It's uncanny the similarities we've experienced. It's painful at first then does get funny once you recognize it.

When I suggested PD Bingo cards to my brother a few years ago, he had this exact idea. He still talks about it sometimes.

PD Bingo... truly the game where the best way to win is not to play.

He and I would probably get along well!

Love the idea and all of the responses!

I have a couple:

I have given up a lot so that you could have things!

If asked, father usually has no idea that is what he wanted. That move is used less frequently now I have taken to checking with him.
