Is it common for them to sort of talk to themselves non-stop or sort of narrating out loud everything they are doing? A lot of the time it is venting about "everything" [he] has to do"

Oh yeah. At least, my mother did this. But for her she was JADEing her every move to my father, who was usually breathing down her neck ready to pounce with criticisms. But then she did it even when he wasn't around.

It is common in young children to do this, and developmentally important somehow. Usually it stops around six, I think. Could go along with the PD arrested development theory.

Definitely was with my NPDh. Talking, talking, talking. And if he noticed that the audience lost interest, he would throw in a short question, cut into the answer and continue talking...
I can't hate my way into loving myself.

Anytime my PDmom has guests, there's a lot of swearing under her breath and fuming about how she "does EVERYTHING around here." Then she goes into whatever area the guests are in and the mask changes, and she's all smiles.

Hi DCF,

Imo, as notright mentioned, only if there is an audience within earshot.  Victim is home-base for the PD on the drama triangle and victimhood needs a perpetrator. Put on visible headphones/earbuds and possibly start singing and/or walk close enough for him to see you have already occupied your eardrums with your own choice of sound (a proper boundary).

A meal of bread and water in peace is better than a banquet spiced with quarrels.

2 Timothy 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Proverbs 29:11
A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.

Thank you! I had started doing this in the car because of his road rage. It was so horrible to listen to.

I actually have early hearing loss and I've discovered that he will talk loud enough for me to hear when he wants me to hear him and will talk exceptionally quietly when he's being passive aggressive

If he has road rage, please keep yourself safe! Not hearing it is one thing, getting into a crash because he is an unsafe driver is quite another.

It's mostly yelling at cars or whining. I drive us most places because of it.

My PDh often talks to himself when he's looking at his phone and sitting in the same room as me. He doesn't do this if I'm in another room, as far as I can tell. His talking to himself is pretty quiet.
