Poison Ivy

It's Thanksgiving in the U.S. today (Thursday, Nov. 23). I am upset with one sibling, and other family members are part of the situation and share many of my feelings about this sibling.

I haven't seen sibling for more than 1 month, even though he lives only 2 blocks away.

We might have seen each other today at our mom's house. I was steeling myself for what would have been only a short time together. We ended up not overlapping at all because sibling kept pushing back their arrival time and I don't like to drive in the dark so I left mid-afternoon.

I feel a little guilty that I didn't stay and inconvenience myself to accommodate my sibling and their family. And I feel sad about the fissure in my family. But I don't feel terrible. All in all, things could have gone worse and I could feel worse than I do now.

I hope everyone else in this forum who is in the U.S. has a tolerable "holiday" too.

"Tolerable" sounds about right as a goal for some of us this holiday.  I'm sorry it was as uncomfortable for you as it was.  Still, it sounds like a victory that you are not walking away from it feeling "worse than you do" or "terrible."  That's a good thing, and even more so because you recognize it.

Back to regular life ... until the next holiday.
