Our son has been very suicidal this past year.  He had cancer as a child that caused his eye socket to have reduced growth, plus the declining function of that eye.  He blew up at me last October about my biggest mistake.  Turns this mistake was agreeing for him to have treatment when he was 5.  Last winter we were on suicide watch with him.  Winter is always tough as he has SAD.  He finally allowed me to take him to the emergency mental health.  They gave him a prescription for an antidepressant.  He took this for a while then stopped as it wasn't working and there was more daylight.  As we got closer to the end of summer, he started getting rid of all his computer parts.  This have him money to buy more liquor.  After the long weekend, he really started to spiral down.  We had plans to go away for 2 weeks.  We were worried, so he agreed that his sister and aunt could take turns doing daily checks.  He was responsible for taking care of my dog.  He had a plan for how he was going to take his life.  They became increasingly concerned, so I flew home early and his aunt and I went to court to have him committed.  It was granted last Friday.  By Sunday, the psychologists had signed the papers.  Then Tuesday morning I got the call he was being released as he wouldn't accept any treatment.  I was beside myself with worry and told the nurse that he wasn't welcome at home.  Well we to go eye released him right away and he came home and wouldnt leave, so I packed as bag and left to stay with my sister-in-law.  My son blames me for so many things that I was worried he would hurt me when he drank too much.  When my husband gets home at the end of the week, I think we will tell him he has to leave.  We might need the police to enforce this.  I am so worried.

Singsongsad - Welcome to Out of the FOG. What a difficult journey your family has been on. My heart goes out to all of you as you figure out the best path forward with your son.

You are dealing with very serious issues and I want to make sure you are getting the specific kind of support you may need.

What we do here is support loved ones of people who have personality disordered traits and behaviors. We have sub forums for the relationship that brings us here and the sub forum for parents dealing with an adult child who they suspect may have/or has been diagnosed with a personality disorder is found here: https://www.outofthefog.net/forum/index.php?board=5.0

If the issues you are experiencing with your son are mental health and/or alcohol related our resources list found here: https://outofthefog.website/links  and may be a place to look through and find additional targeted support for what you are facing.

I am also thinking that the facility that admitted your son may have parents' groups or support in real life as well that they could recommend to you. I can't imagine going through this kind of intense decision making process without professional input and advice.

In the meantime, settle in and make good use of the toolbox at the drop down menu above that helps us with ideas of what to do and not do related to specific behaviors, and when you are ready, join the conversations taking place on the forum boards.
The most powerful people are peaceful people.

The truth will set you free if you believe it.
