Today, I'm going to honor the Sisyphean task of mothering myself as an adult child survivor and celebrate the healthier I am for it.

Happy Mother's Day to all of us re-parenting ourselves on our healing journeys.

@Liketheducks  well said.   i'm gardening and enjoying a nice home cooked meal with my DH after we walk our fur children, maybe throw in some weeding/gardening.  it's glorious outside today where I am at!

My DW's grandmother (late 80s and going strong) had an NPF and a BPM for parents. She ended up in foster care back in the 40s and became an alcoholic. Eventually she got control of her life and just received her 52nd chip from AA. But she built a better life for her kids and then for their kids. She knows my whole story and gets me in a way no one else does since she lived through it too. She told me last night and again this morning that, as far as she was concerned, I was her son. And I feel the same way. Part of my redemptive story has been not only reparenting myself, raising my own kids free from the nonsense, but also receiving a true mother in my adult years.

What a beautiful story GC, what a blessing to have someone like your bonus Grandma in your corner and in your life. I'm happy for you.

Today has been mostly happy, twinges of sad. Was totally spoiled by hubby and family, good lessons at church with treats for the women afterwards. There was a reading of the poem "So God Made Mothers" and how could I not sit there and mentally pick it apart? "My mom is not like that... my mom doesn't do that... my mom never did that..." My mom is not the stuff of poetry. Today she will likely be very unhappy and console herself by telling herself what a terrible daughter I am for not acknowledging her today, but I probably would have 1) Made her mad by reaching out and 2) Enabled more narc supply for her by reaching out. Feeling guilty/not feeling guilty, feeling happy/feeling sad. It's a two-things-can-be-true kind of Mother's Day.

Have any of you ever heard the song "Matilda" by Harry Styles? I never heard it before today. If you've never heard it give it a listen. Very relatable.

Yes again, mine too! Proud member of the Bad Daughters club. It never stops amazing me that they would rather sit and stew in their own fetid juices than just BE A DECENT HUMAN BEING that other people actually WANT to be around.
