hi group

just trying to process the END of 7 years of bullying in my workplace.  to make a long story short-
Bullying is very common in my line of work-  either it's mean girl staff/staff stuff or admin to staff, where cliques are common and it takes a WHOLE lot of documentation to get HR and the higher ups to actually DO SOMETHING.

I had been in the same spot in a different position/ different company (same line of work) for which the community here got me through (2012/13) so I haven't really posted on what we all just endured bc I was working my boundaries and documenting like it was my olympic event and it was my time to GO GOLD and get the perfect 10.

so, after two rounds of HR being in the building, a staff turnover of almost 40 people in the 7 years, multiple letters/complaints to both HR and the home office, multiple people speaking in public meetings regarding the situation........

my abusive boss has been transferred to another location and we have new admin incoming.

what exactly it was that set the situation over the edge we're not sure.  however 11 employees were pink slipped by this admin and not HR and the way the pink slipping was done did not follow either HR guidelines or the provisions as outlined in our contract with the employer.- as of this writing  10 of the 11 still have not a clue where their placement is for the next fiscal year which starts July 1.   there's also been the blatant favoritism, continual and pervasive disrespect to staff in front of other staff and our clients, failure to follow established procedures/ timelines for staff evaluations, serious miscommunication about both administrative and safety issues and probably falling short of whatever metric they use to evaluate admin with repeatedly.

it's nuts though and i'm still processing about not dreading to go into work or having to document ERRRRRYTHING this person says/ does and be in constant communication with our union reps on it.  i'm hopeful for what is in store for our 'new year' and how it can benefit staff/ clients we serve.

of course, I probably lost a least 2 folks who I considered  work friends due to the process, one who was on the committee to stand up to the boss so make that make sense and the other one was in the clique who was favored so they never experienced what some of the rest of us did....

it's crazy to not have to have to use mental energy to have to be on eggshells daily with this admin person.  it's also amazing what can happen when people work together for the common good.  it may take some time.....lawd knows 7 years is a long time.... but change can come if you just keep on chugging.

What a triumph! I'm really happy for the relief that you are feeling because of this change and I'm glad you have hope for the future. I think it's amazing you stuck it out all this time and worked the strategies you knew would help you. I keep changing jobs to get away from dysfunctional situations and people but it doesn't seem to help much.  :(  It's very cool you decided to hang in on the chance you could all work together to improve things.

xredshoesx - this is terrific news! What a hard won victory you have had and I can only imagine how long it may take for the reality to set in. I am another who is inspired by your resilience and wisdom in staying the course and documenting and using the professional pathways available to you to seek resolution and relief.

I can't make sense of a friend on the committee to help expose the mismanagement and bullying turning away from your friendship. That is strange indeed.

I am really happy to read this and thankful you can exhale!

@bloomie my best understanding of the former friend/ committee member is 'hurt people hurt other people'.

@Rebel13 it ain't over yet.  our location has a messaging app we use to inform clients of events, etc.  when our former boss announced their departure (well actually their boss announced it for them all they got to send us was an email I know they didn't write for themselves bc it wasn't in all caps and it was brief and bullied nobody) they were removed from this messaging app.  one of the other employees with admin capacity added them back so they could make a farewell post to the clients.......  imma need another cup of coffee before I go read it and decide if it needs to be moderated bc guess who also moderates that chat......

Oh for crying out loud, there's always a flying monkey, isn't there?
