It's been 10 glorious years of NC for me, and nearly that long for my brother. unPD calls about a distant family member who's dying. Brother calls me with a heads up, which was much appreciated.

I might have to call the police on her soon. Has anyone had to do this, and how did it go?

(Now that she won't have anyone to "take care of" in her life, she'll certainly look to fill the void.)

Thanks all and big hugs,
Blue

PS: She said she was diagnosed, but didn't mention therapy or medication.

I filed a CPS complaint against my mother as a teen- does that count????

it did result in my removal from the home and went through the court process to right about when her rights were going to be terminated (my biological father had already 'signed off') but then a shitstorm of stuff happened and she ended up getting me back...

Xredshoesx, at first I thought you lived my dream, then that last part ... All the hugs,

I remember being coached to lie to them as a little thing. I always dreamed about what if. That ending was in none of my daydreams.

Just to clarify, it's your mother you're concerned about needing to call the police about? I'm so sorry for the intrusion after so long.

I have not called the police, but I would not hesitate to do so if my parents attempted to intrude themselves in my life again. My father has worked in a field where he would know how naviagate/manipulate CPS, and he was clearly laying the groundwork to weaponize the system against my children. We sent a cease and desist via certified mail that if they continued to harass or libel us in any manner including through third parties we would take legal action to protect our family, and I meant it. I've had blessed silence for close to a decade now. It might be worth considering in your situation. Ideally it would be a deterrent, but if you did need to make that call I imagine it would be easier to do so, having already announced your intention, and you have credibility at hand, especially if you've sent it certified mail and have their signature. Best wishes to you.

I'm researching cease and desist now. Thanks, cordelia. Yes, we'd have to call the police on my apparently bipolar mom.

My sister is still a little FOGgy, and I'm hoping for stories to encourage her to protect herself and her family. She has a temper, and I can imagine her opening that door just to tell her off, which doesn't look as good when the neighbors call the police instead.

Yes...once my father when I was a teen, my brother as he raged and once again when I was afraid he'd take his life...he did a decade later.   My dad had a restraining order he flaunted in the 80's.  My parents purposefully kept me home from school when I had auspices bruises as a 12 yr old.  Writing that makes me brave and also sad. My mom has shown up at my workplace to confront me once...but I could duck out before she caused a scene.  She did at my other brothers workplace.   I'll admit, I've invested in home security
