Hey all.

My friend is in a severely abusive environment-both his parents are narcissists and at least one of them resolves to physical violence. He called me today to tell me he's homeless because they had a fight and they kicked him out. I tried to help by giving him addresses of homeless shelters BUT..here is the catch: we are living in different countries. He is in Turkey and moved there not long ago. I have no idea how Turkey deals with homeless people and domestic abuse.

So I advised him to call his parents and apologize. I know that only being nice, apologetic and fake works with narcissists. Using grey rock works as well. He doesn't use any of these methods, he explodes in waves of rages and lashes out. He doesn't understand that being calm, agreeable and nice to someone abusive esp when living with them CAN and WILL save your life.

he mentioned physical violence taking place so of course i'm worried he may be exposed to that.

How would you handle this? I advised him to contact homeless shelters, get some money from his dad (his folks are wealthy and he doesn't have a job) and move at night when they're asleep into the shelter.

Sincerely I don't think he'll do it. He has been in this situation for many years.
But I know he has a lot of potential. He worked in USA for a few years and was away from his family, he didn't have a lot of contact with them. But since coming back he's in constant contact with them because of a lack of job.

If you ever went through this situation and can give some advice to pass over to him, please do. I hate knowing he might get seriously hurt or even unalived by a family member. he also talked about committing s***** (you get it) and I told him to think it over and occupy his time with some hobbies-which he did.

mary_poppins - how awful all the way around this situation sounds to be. I am just so sorry. You did the exact right thing in offering resources because none of us are qualified or in a position to intervene or advice. I am really sad for you and for your friend. How hard!
