The silent treatment

One behavior, I noticed that was common in my mother was the use of the silent treatment. It could be the smallest source of conflict and she would just go silent. Most of the time it would be over me asking a question or me not responding to every single one of her texts.

It seemed like the only way to resolve the situation would be to reach back out to her at least once if not multiple times. It also seemed like it was never something that we could discuss over text. It always had to be a phone call and when I would agree to those phone calls, it would be very tense and very I'm not the problem. You're the problem.

The part that I don't understand is my mother was so quick to cut me off at any moment the second that I didn't do exactly what she wanted. Yet she always complained that I didn't go over enough and that I didn't call enough so it was always confusing to me of like do you want me in your life or not?

I know it was probably used as a source of power. It used to take over me because I have anxiety and I want a solution to the problem. Now that we're no contact I realize that it's just better off that way because I know not to expect anything from her.
