How far did you move for NC?

Truly.  I felt like those protesters you see who chain themselves up to the object they're trying to protect.  That's how strongly attached I was to my apartment.  You would've had to take it from my cold, dead hands then, lol.)  Now?  Meh.  I don't have plans to stay in the area for more than another couple years before moving out of state.  Until then, I view this town as my home.  The fact that she is here also has no bearing on the way I choose to live my life.  I have my FOC & my job here as well as Sis2.  I'm content.

:applause: :applause:
I really applaud you for your attitude. And the sense of humour. It gives me so much hope.
Well done.

Well, thanks, lol.  I was talking to a coworker earlier about an ISP contractor here who tripped himself coming back out of my attic & put a foot through my ceiling today that the new hole in my ceiling is like a normal thing in my house, lol.  That's basically how I feel about uNM:  It feels like she's a piece of furniture.  It's there.  I can move her out of the way if I want, so she's a little uncomfortable couch way in the back of my mind that I pay no attention to.

*I described it like this because there've been so many stressful things that've happened in the last 3 weeks & particularly over the last 4 days that I've worn myself out & am now weirdly nonchalant about all the extra dramas.  Just another day during Mercury retrograde...

Btw, the contractor is fine.  Just mortified that he broke my ceiling, lol.  As for me?  I'm hoping I get a new kitchen fan outta this because I hate the one I have now. ;D
I lived with my dad's uPD mom for 3.5 years.  This is my story:  https://www.outofthefog.net/forum/index.php?topic=95567.0  (TW for abuse descriptions.)

NC with uNM since December 2016.  VLC with uPD/eF.

Sidney, I feel the same about my hometown. Seeing the name on a highway sign gets me all fight or flighty, too. When we drive anywhere near there, I take a nap until we're safely past all those "old familiar places". I would never drive by my old high school, etc. like DH and I have done with our old house when visiting the city we lived in when we were first married. Even when I was deep in FOG I would have never lived in that toxic town again.

I also had ignoring family members who couldn't be bothered to visit me when I was close. (Well, until I went NC and they turned stalker.) There was a perception they could visit me any old time, so they rarely bothered, and then only for short periods of time. We spent more time annually with them when we lived 8 hours away. We did move farther away again a couple of years into NC, but not to get away from them.

I moved clear across the country. Best thing I've ever done. When I have to go back to the city where I grew up for one reason or another, I get physically sick to my stomach a week before.

1,000 miles (1,200km) but uPDm 'followed' us and moved in not far away. We eventually moved back, and again, she got some contracts that were very local, so was in the area, and it was tough. Went VLC partially as a strategy to reduce stress by being able to keep tabs on her a bit and avoid being ambushed. Sort of worked.

After Umil & UFil cut us off in writing because they were offended by our boundaries, my Dh & I were elated to be free and enjoyed the silent treatment.

The N-in-laws were not pleased and started to show up at our kids' school and just STARE (they'd be outside at the entrance).  They sent letters full of narc rage mocking us, writing they knew everything we were doing in our lives.  Anything to get us to respond.  We contacted the police who gave them a warning but my NFil played the victim to the police and he just escalated the letters and the stalking of our kids.

Their grandchildren/our kids were getting very upset.  Nightmares.  Anxiety.  Kids were questioning what's going on?  NFil even would stand outside with a sign with a message that he missed his grandkids!

So fed up, Dh & I moved 1000 miles away.

Best decision we ever made!

At first I was upset that we had to move bc they were targeting our kids.

But in time, the peace made it worth it.

I live clear across the country from NPD parents, about as far as one could get away from them while living on the same continent parents, and cannot imagine it any other way. However, one of the cousins I'm close to has been NC for years and she lives in a very small state near to her NPD family members and our very large cult-like extended family. She has done an incredible job at keeping boundaries and sees no one from the family. I'm in awe of her and mention it every time we speak. If I were to live closer to my NPD parents, things would be more difficult for me.

You know I was thinking about this recently.  We will be moving to a different state in about 6 months.  My husband's property.  We are putting a house on it.  I have lived here for a decade.  Narc Mom has always made visits about her conventions.  Swan around.  Resort pool together.

I was talking to my councelor and realized that she never really visited ME more my town.  Swan around at tourist places. Never about milestones for me.

It will be lovely when we do move  She won't want to hike in our new rural husband's hometown.  I doubt she ever visits.

I moved half the world away, literally. It was the best decision I ever made in my entire life.
